Thought.isPeople with anxiety aren’t perfect, but nobody is. When you love someone who has anxiety, you’re loving someone who is in tune with their every emotion. Someone who feels everything with their being and doesn’t apologize for it. When you love someone who has anxiety you are loving someone who is sensitive and empathetic. And they…
Rainy days bring happiness to my soul. Such a wonderful feeling of comfort made my mind realize how greens turned fresh and alluring. Buds and flowers bloom, grasses move taller so fast, trees danced of joy and green fields give its produce so fast.
Gazing at my lawn comforts my mind from a very hectic schedules of the week. Paper works made me indifferent these past days, thinking that my time wasn’t enough to do my extra school work. Sleeping late at night and staying indoor all days has made me denied of a chance in appreciating outdoor beauties. Such life will bring me to the lowest point of emotions had I stayed unnoticed. Thanks for the rain, it made a high sounding fall on my roof, calling my attention and come to my senses.
I started to see little things around. Raindrops rehabilitates my weary mind and wind gush reflexes my dehydrated skin. Looking down, I can feel the raindrops pounding dried leaves flat, its sound soothes my heavy feelings of emotions. Watching trees around as if they are dancing while catching every fall of the rain entertains me so deeply. Gloomy clouds stand firm as if determined to give for more. My rural house enjoys the greenery of nature, every wink of my eyes discloses the amazing beauty of trees, grasses, river, ornamental plants and orchids.
Then I realized how God created the best garden modified by his own wonderful landscapes. They said plants are the food of our souls while we take care of our nature, we nourished our spirit with gifts from the HEAVENLY Father. He actually caused the rains to paint my lawn green.
It’s been so warm and sunny here lately that daffodils are blooming and the pastures are turning from dull brown to vibrant green. So, this past weekend, Farmguy and I decided it was a good time to gather our sheep to administer their yearly vaccines and attend to other routine care practices like trimming hooves and de-worming. After we finished, I walked around the pastures to take a few pictures. And, it occurred to me what a different spring we are having this year.
It was last year’s depressing gray skies, deluge of rain, and general sogginess that inspired the following farmgirl lament on the weather. I know spring is really early this year, but this farmgirl is so grateful for the sunshine and warmer temperatures.
I really don’t know if I can take one more day of winter. As I sit here writing, rain is sprinkling against the windows…

Whenever Farmguy and I visit the Cotswolds, we always make a point of spending the day at Sudeley Castle near Winchcombe in Gloucestershire, England. The present structure was built in the 15th century and has nine individual gardens. These lovely and historical gardens are associated with four of England’s queens—Anne Boleyn, Katherine Parr, Lady Jane Grey, and Elizabeth I.
St. Mary’s Church, in which Katherine Parr is buried, is bordered by the White Garden, rich with peonies, clematis, roses and tulips, where Katherine and her companion, Lady Jane Grey would have entered the church for daily prayers.
Also, among the flowers is “The Dog.” A beautiful and detailed piece of artwork by internationally acclaimed sculptor Max Patte who is originally from Gloucestershire and now based in New Zealand. Patte is famous for creatures he created for the film, TheHobbit.
Many teachers look like they are real as diamonds; genuine as gold. They saw themselves as catalyst of change in a school where they work. These kind of teachers always smile because they are happy of what they are doing. They always smile and work positively, no worries, no complain.
They believed that students of all ages need to feel that their teachers like them and approve of what they do. There are many ways to show that you care about your students while still maintaining a professional attitude.
First, do conditioning. It is just like structuring your own house set up so that occupants know where and when to sit, eat and sleep. The same as your student’s proper decorum inside and outside of the class. Everyone must know his roles, responsibilities and limits. Stress the things that you and your students have in common like goals, dreams and beliefs.
Second, deal with kindness. Use your kind voice when you talk, listen to all of your students and don’t be selective. When a student speaks to you, stop and listen, he needs you so badly. Be attentive always so you can respond to their greetings, they might be at their low point and your smile will lift them up. When they give gifts or flowers, write a thank you note or letter in return. It will comfort them knowing you valued their effort. When you display your student’s work, do it to all and don’t just choose the best. In their class activity, create a study buddy groups so that they can be connected to one another and let them feel that they are always part of the class. Always use good manners when you deal with your students and insist that they should do the same.
Third, show acceptance. When one of your students won in the contest, make a tarpaulin and hang it in the “ Wall of Fame”. Recognize their birthdays by having a birthday calendar then write message for the celebrants. Show your sense of humour and laugh with them. When you want to express what you feel, write notes. Use plenty of colourful stickers and write positive comments on their paper. Lastly, don’t forget to take selfies with them. They are your pride for that year.
Fourth, have connections with them. Attend school events if your students perform. Go with them to show your appreciation for their hard work. When your students confide in you, follow up and take time to ask about how they did. Don’t forget to ask about their family because its nice to know if someone is ill, you can send your “Get well soon” card. Speak to every student each day, text or call when they are absent and visit if there is no reply.
Caring for your students while you teach is a productive teacher-student relationship. They will not forget you throughout their lives because you are real to them.
One will think that perfect teachers probably have exemplary lesson plans, numerous marked books with targets of high proficiency level, perfect authority in class and good management skills. However, looking at our common teenager’s life, great teachers are more than those qualities mentioned above. Real teachers are the ones whose lessons are always discussed every dinner tables, whose names are always remembered, and whose impact is never forgotten.
Outstanding teachers are the ones who have deep knowledge and understanding of their student’s life. This happens when that teachers offer an after school session every single week. This occurs when the teachers perform student remediation in academics, coach extracurricular tasks, conduct school initiated intervention, do home visitation and initiate both formal and informal interviews. These tasks are beyond their DepEd duties but as teachers with big heart, they troubleshoot whatever incompetence or loopholes encountered to render meaningful service. There are lots of teaching issues they can address and this is the teacher’s opportunity to touch the lives of their students meaningfully.
This is teaching more than what is required from our Curriculum Guide. “On task training”, “modelling” or “hands on” activities are more realistic for skills training. Real acquisition of life’s skills are indirectly taught here, acts of resourcefulness encountered will teach them how to tackle obstacles and therefore make them stronger. These are the outputs of perfect lessons, wherein an insecure teenager feels cared and nurtured.
Another quality of an outstanding teacher is their good attitude. They are the ones whose personalities are so bright that the light bulbs inside fifty (50) heads are switched on in any way. These teachers always smile and can do the voices in books without feeling embarrassed. They don’t shout because the students are always motivated to work with them. They don’t criticize verbally as they see their student’s potential in every human aspect. They don’t complain because every challenge is their opportunity to show they are inspired.
Such qualities of a teacher will dramatically improve student’s self-esteem. Students will be encouraged to go to school always and hear their teachers say “You’ve got it!” “Very Good” or “absolutely”. It could just be an enthusiastic nod and a proud glint of their eye. It sounds simple, but being told that you’ve achieved something means the world. Their ridiculous stress and efforts make their students appreciate because for them, these kind of teachers are like melodies that you can’t get out of your head.
